Kinetic tiles are a form of technology that have been developed to utilize our kinetic energy and convert that energy into electrical energy. Kinetic tiles may seem like your typical tiles found in homes and public places but are much more advanced as they have a whole new function in maintaining the building. These tiles utilize a phenomenon known as the piezoelectric effect to generate electricity. Kinetic tiles have only recently been developed by companies such as Pavegen, which is a London based company founded by Laurence Kembal Cook. Although the tiles are extremely expensive, costing about $211, Cook has announced that the cost of the tiles will drop below $100 in the near future.
